Cooper-Jakob V2 Todd 2005-441

The document provides instructions for using the Cooper-Jacob XL V2.0 software to analyze pumping test data. It describes entering data into the software's data worksheet including pumping well details, water level measurements, and other parameters. It then explains how to view and adjust the charts and analysis on subsequent sheets to fit the data and calculate aquifer properties. The instructions note that some calculations are done automatically by the software in a hidden sheet.

Instructions on how to use Cooper-Jacob XL V2.

1) Enter your data in the Data Worksheet.

The distance to the pumping well, the pumping rate,
and the static water level must be entered in the cells as indicated.
Note that the units used are metres for distance, m3 for volume, and days for time.
All the other information can be changed as required.
For instance you could rename 'Project' to 'Client'.

2) Enter the time (GMT) of the beginning of the pumping test in cell D14.
The rest of column D is calculated automatically from the time since
the pumping test started (in minutes) which you need to enter in column E.
Enter the water level, discharge and conductivity data in Columns F, G & H respectively.
Note that the discharge in Column G is for reference only.
You need to enter an average pumping rate into cell M4.

3) All other data will be calculated automatically.

4) Check the data in the Chart sheet which shows water level and conductivity readings.
If necessary, adjust the data ranges using Chart - Source Data - Series.

5) Go to the Analysis sheet and adjust the red line to fit the data.
If necessary, adjust the data ranges using Chart - Source Data - Series.
The calculated drawdown and %age error calculated in the Data Sheet
will be adjusted automatically when you move the line.
Note that the data points change from a circle to a square if u>0.05.

6) Go to the Print sheet and adjust the scales of the graph if required.
Note that all the information you entered in the Data sheet
are transferred automatically to the Print sheet.
If necessary, adjust the data ranges using Chart - Source Data - Series.

7) Note that the T & S calculations are carried out in a hidden sheet called 'Calcs'.
A storativity value will be calculated for observation wells that are greater than 3 metres
from the pumping well. If your data is from a pumping well,
use the radius of the well as the distance to the pumping well.
