Intersection Analysis: Signalized vs Unsignalized

This document contains a student's solutions to problems analyzing unsignalized and signalized intersections. It includes calculations of capacity and level of service for various movements at an intersection, such as right turns into a major road and left turns off a major road. It also contains the student's analysis of critical movements and y-values for a signalized intersection with multiple phases. The student determined that the critical movements were movements 5 and 2, with a combined y-value of 0.793.

For Bonus (10%)

1. Create a channel as to avoid conflicts

2. Create an exclusive lane for the right turns
3. Remove Left turns
4. Put stop and/or signal lights

Problem Set 3: Analysis of Unsignalized and Signalized Intersections (Part 1)

Each of the following sets consists of movements that form a complete cycle:
[5,2], [4,1], [6,4,2], or [6,3]
[5,2]: y= 0.46 + 0.333 = 0.793
[4,1]: y= 0.3+0.188= 0.488
[6,4,2]: y= 0.111+0.3+0.333 = 0.744
[6,3]: y= 0.111+ 0.156 = 0.267
The critical movements are [5,2] with y-value of = 0.793
