Upgrade Memory on QNAP Turbo NAS (RAM Module Installation)

Warning：
The following instructions should only be performed by an authorized and trained technician.
Strictly adhere to the instructions to install a RAM module on the NAS.  Failure to do so could result in injury to human body or death.
Before starting, please ensure that you turn off the NAS, disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and also remove any other device/cable that is attached
to the NAS. 
Please ensure that you wear an antistatic wrist strap during the entire process to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be connected to the
ground.
When using two modules, use only QNAP modules of the same type and capacity to maintain system performance and stability. You can purchase QNAP memory
modules from authorized resellers.

Choose your NAS model:

TS-453mini (4-bay)
TS-451S, TS-651, TS-851, TS-x53/x53S Pro, TVS-x63 series (2/4/6/8-bay)
TS-451U, TS-x53U, TS-x63U series (4/8/12-bay)

QNAP provides different RAM modules (optional purchase) for users to upgrade the memory of Turbo NAS. Follow the steps below to install an extra memory module on the NAS to
upgrade the memory.
 

TS-453mini (4-bay)
1. Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the screw on the memory module compartment at the bottom of the NAS and lift the compartment cover away.

2. To remove installed memory modules, pull the retention clips on each side so that the module tilts up for easy removal.

Note: Always ensure that a memory module is installed in the Primary (red) slot. If not, then the system will fail to start. When installing two memory modules,
please ensure that they are the same size and ideally use the same type/model for both slots.

3. Slide the memory module to the slot at a 45-degree angle (approximately) and press the memory module down until it clips into place. Ensure the memory module
sits properly with the clips in place.
 4. Close the NAS cover and fasten the screw. Reconnect the power and network cables to the NAS.
 

TS-451S, TS-651, TS-851, TS-x53/x53S Pro, TVS-x63 series (2/4/6/8-bay)

Follow the steps below to install a RAM module on the NAS.

1. Loosen the three screws on the rear of the NAS.

2. Remove the case cover of the NAS gently.

3. Locate the memory slot. Make sure the slot is empty.
Note: For TS-x53/x53S Pro, TS-451S, TS-651 and TS-851 models, always ensure that a memory module is installed in the Primary slot (red). If not, then the system will
fail to start. When installing two memory modules, please ensure that they are the same size and ideally use the same type of RAM for both memory slots. The maximum
supported memory is 8GB combined.

4. Grasp the edge of the memory module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the module with the notch in the memory slot. Slide the memory module to the slot at a
45-degree angle (approximately).

5. Gently press the memory module into the slot until it is seated fully.
6. Rotate the memory module towards the motherboard until the securing clips clicks into place.
 7. Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to the NAS.
8. To check that the memory module is recognized by the NAS, power up the NAS and login the web interface as an administrator. Go to “System Status” > “System
Information” and check the total memory in “Hardware Information”.
 

TS-451U, TS-x53U, TS-x63U series (4/8/12-bay)

1. Open the NAS.

a. TS-451U, TS-453U, TS-463U series: Loosen all the screws on the top of the NAS.
 b. TS-853U, TS-863U, TS-1253U, TS-1263U series: Loosen the two screws on the rear of the NAS.

2. Open the NAS. Pull the retention clips on each side so that the module tilts up for easy removal. Remove installed memory modules.
3. Slide the memory module to the slot at a 45-degree angle (approximately).
4. Press the memory module down. Make sure the memory module sits in properly with the clips in place.
 Note: For TS-x53U & TS-451U models, always ensure that a memory module is installed in the primary slot (red box in the below figure,) or the system will fail to start.
The maximum supported memory is 8GB combined.

5. Close the NAS cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to the NAS.
 

TS-x69U-RP/SP series (4/8/12-bay)

Follow the steps below to install a RAM module on the NAS.

1. Turn off the NAS. Disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and any other connectors or cables from the NAS.
2. Before installing the memory module, put on an antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be connected to the ground.
3. Open the NAS.
TS-469U-RP/SP: Loosen the six screws on the top of the NAS.
 TS-869U-RP and TS-1269U-RP: Loosen the two screws on the rear of the NAS.

4. Open the NAS.

5. Slide the memory module to the slot at a 45-degree angle (approximately).

6. Press the memory module down while holding the clips open.
 7. Make sure the memory module sits in properly with the clips in place.

8. Close the NAS cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to the NAS.
 

TS-x79 series, TS-x79U-SAS series, TS-x70U series

QNAP provides a 4GB DDR3* RAM module and a 4GB DDR3 ECC** RAM module (optional purchase) for users to upgrade the memory of the NAS. Insert an extra RAM
module on the motherboard of the NAS to upgrade the memory. The total memory will be shown in “System Information” of the administration page.
*Applied models: TS-879U-RP, TS-1279U-RP, TS-1679U-RP, TS-870U-RP, TS-1270U-RP.
**Applied models: TS-EC879U-RP, TS-EC1279U-RP, TS-EC1679U-RP.

1. Loosen the 2 screws on the rear of the NAS as shown in the illustration.

2. Hold the notch at the edge of the top cover. Remove the top cover in both hands.

3. Release the ejector clips gently by pulling them out of the sides of the RAM slot.
 4. Grasp the edge of the RAM module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the RAM module with the notch in the RAM slot. Insert the RAM module to the RAM slot
until it cannot go any further.

 
TS-ECx80U series

1. Turn off the NAS. Disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and any other connectors or cables from the NAS.
2. Before installing the network expansion card, put on an antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be connected to the
ground.
3. Loosen the 2 screws on the rear of the NAS as shown in the illustration.

4. Hold the handle pulled backwards to remove the Motherboard Drawer .

5. Release the ejector clips gently by pulling them out of the sides of the RAM slot.
 6. Grasp the edge of the RAM module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the RAM module with the notch in the RAM slot. Insert the RAM module to the RAM slot
until it cannot go any further.

7. Insert the Motherboard Drawer, push the handle, locking NAS rear two screws.
 
 
TS-ECx80 Pro / TVS-ECx80 series

1. Turn off the NAS. Disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and any other connectors or cables from the NAS.
2. Before installing the network expansion card, put on an antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be connected to the
ground.
3. Loosen the seven screws on the rear of the NAS.

4. Remove the case cover of the NAS gently.

5. Loosen the cable

6. Release the ejector clips gently by pulling them out of the sides of the RAM slot.

7. Grasp the edge of the RAM module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the RAM module with the notch in the RAM slot. Insert the RAM module to the RAM slot
until it cannot go any further.
 8. Install the NAS enclosure and lock the seven screws on the back of the NAS.
 
 

TS-251A, TS-451A, TS-251, TS-451, TS-231P2, TS-431P2, TS-431X, TS-431X2

Follow the steps below to install a RAM module on the NAS.

1. Turn off the NAS. Disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and any other connectors/cables from the NAS.
2. Remove any installed hard drives from the NAS.
3. Before installing the memory module, put on an antistatic wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge. The crocodile clip should be grounded.
4. Remove the screws on the rear (top and bottom) of the NAS. If you have a 2-bay NAS, it will have two screws. A 4-bay NAS will have four.
5. Gently remove the case cover of the NAS by sliding it apart (see the underside of the NAS for visual indicators of the NAS case being locked/unlocked)

6. Remove the four inner screws (two on each side) of the hard drive cage.
7. If it is a 4-bay NAS, you will also need to remove two screws on the top of the hard drive cage.

8. Gently remove the hard drive cage from the NAS by lifting it out of its slot.
 9. Always ensure that a memory module is installed in the Primary slot (red). If not, then the system will fail to start. When installing two memory modules, please
ensure that they are the same size and ideally use the same type of RAM for both memory slots. The maximum supported memory is 8GB combined.

10. Reattach the hard drive cage to the NAS. Please ensure that it correctly plugs into the slot.

11. Secure the hard drive cage by fastening the four inner screws (for the 4-bay NAS, please fasten the two additional top screws.) Then reattach the case cover of the
NAS by gently sliding it back together.
12. Fasten the two/four screws onto the rear of the NAS.
 13. Reinsert your hard drives to the NAS.
14. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to the NAS.
15. To check that the memory module is recognized by the NAS, power up the NAS and login the web interface as an administrator. Go to “System Status” > “System
Information” and check the total memory in “Hardware Information”.
 

TVS-x71 series (4/6/8-bay)

Follow the below steps to install an extra RAM module in the NAS.

1. Turn off the NAS. Disconnect the power adaptor, network cable(s), and everything else that is physically connected to the NAS.
2. Before opening the NAS, wear an antistatic wrist strap to prevent accidental electrostatic discharge.
The crocodile clip should be connected to the ground.
3. Loosen the screws on the rear of the NAS.

4. Gently remove the NAS case cover.

5. The TVS-x71 series has 2 RAM slots, an inner slot and an outer slot.

Find the slot installed with a pre-installed RAM module. To replace it, open the clips on both sides of the module.
6. Grasp the edge of the memory module. Align the notch on the gold edge of the module with the notch in the memory slot.
Slide the memory module into the slot at a (approximately) 45-degree angle.

7. Gently press the memory module into the slot until it is fully seated.
 8. Press the memory module towards the motherboard until the securing clips click into place. Ensure that the memory module sits securely with the clips in place.

9. Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Insert the hard drive trays.
Reconnect the power adaptor and other cables back into the NAS.
10. To check that the memory module is recognized by the NAS, start up the NAS and login to the web interface as an administrator.
Go to "System Status" > "System Information" and check the total memory in "Hardware information".
 
TVS-x82, TVS-x82T and TS-x77 series

QNAP provides different RAM modules (optional purchase) for users to upgrade the memory of their NAS.

Follow these steps to install an extra memory module on the NAS.

1. Loosen the screws from the rear to remove the cover (TVS-682 series: 3 screws; TVS-882 series: 6 screws; TVS-1282 series: 7 screws.)

The above figure is shown as demonstration only.

2. Remove the case cover of the NAS.
3. Unplug the cable that is connected to the motherboard, loosen the screw on the fan module, press down the hook and then pull out the module.

4. Pull the retention clips on each side so that the module can be removed. Remove the installed memory modules.
 Note: The maximum supported memory is 32GB combined.
5. Press down the memory module to the slot and until it clips into place. Ensure the memory module sits properly with the clips in place. Install the upgraded module
in either the blue or black slots.

6. Reinstall the fan module and reconnect the cable to the motherboard, Close the case cover and fasten the screws. Connect the power adaptor and cables back to
the NAS.
7. To check that the memory module is recognized by the NAS, power up the NAS and log into the web interface as an administrator. Go to "System Status" > "System
Information" and check the total memory in "Hardware Information".
