The Present Continuous

The present continuous of any verb is composed of two parts - the present tense of the
verb to be + the present participle of the main verb.

(The form of the present participle is: base+ing, e.g. talking, playing, moving, smiling)

How do we form negative sentences in the present continuous tense?


To create a negative statement with the present continuous, add "not" after the auxiliary
"to be". The form is: Subject + Be + Not + Verb Gerund.

The negative form can be abbreviated, as shown below:

You are not working = You're not working or You aren't working

He is not working = He's not working or He isn't working

Examples:

1. You aren't driving very well today.


2. She isn't studying very hard.
3. I'm not cooking again tonight!

How do we form interrogative sentences in the present continuous tense?


To construct a question we have to put the verb „to be“at the beginning of the sentence,
in front of the subject. The rest of the sentence is like that of an affirmative sentence.
Again, we add the suffix –ing to the base form of the verb.

The sentence will look as follows:

To be (am, are, is) + subject + verb +(-ing) + object?

Examples:

1. Are you dancing on the Nagin song?


2. Am I going?
3. Is she talking?

b- They are making the monthly budget.
