Interview Protocol

I. Greeting the Participant

I hope you're doing well today. Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to meet with
me. I genuinely appreciate your willingness to participate in this qualitative interview.
Before we begin, I want to express my gratitude for your contribution to this research. Your
insights and experiences are incredibly valuable to me. I am eager to hear your perspective
on the "Diaspora of Filipino Teachers Leaving for Work in the US." This study aims to
uncover the primary motivations behind Filipino teachers' decision to relocate to the US for
employment, while also delving deeply into their experiences as they adapt and integrate
into the cultural, social, and educational landscapes of their host countries. This research
conducted in this study is in compliance with the degree requirements for a Doctorate in
Education.

As part of this research process, please be advised that your responses during this interview
will be audio-taped. This method allows for accurate documentation and analysis of the
information shared, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the study's findings. Rest assured
that all recorded data will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and used solely for
research purposes. Your cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated

Please know also that your comfort and well-being are my top priorities. This interview is an
opportunity for an open and respectful conversation, and I want you to feel at ease sharing
your thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions or concerns at any point during the
interview, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm here to support you and ensure that
your experience is positive and fulfilling.

II. Instructions for Participants in Qualitative Interviews

Before we proceed, it's important for you to understand your rights as a participant.

1. Informed Consent: By agreeing to participate in this interview, you acknowledge that


you understand the purpose of the study, the interview procedures, and any potential
risks or benefits involved. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time
without penalty.
2. Confidentiality: Any information you provide during the interview will be kept
confidential. Your identity will be protected, and your responses will not be shared with
anyone without your explicit consent.
3. Anonymity: If you prefer, you have the right to remain anonymous. Your name or any
other personally identifiable information will not be linked to your responses in any
reports or publications resulting from the study.

US?

practice your teaching profession in the US?
C. Professional Experiences, Cultural Adaptation, and Impact:
7. How would you describe your experiences as a teacher in the US compared to your
experiences in the Philippines?
8. What varied experiences have you had while adapting to the diverse cultural, social, and
educational settings in the US?
9. How have these experiences impacted your professional and personal adaptation to life in
the US?
10. What methods or strategies have you used to handle these challenges?
11. Have you experienced any specific instances of discrimination or cultural misunderstanding
in the US? How did you handle them?
D. Reflections and Future Plans:
12. Looking back on your decision to migrate to the US for employment, how do you feel about
it now? Are there any aspects of the experience that you would have approached
differently?
13. What are your future plans or aspirations in terms of your career and personal life as a
migrant teacher in the US?
14. Do you think being in the US is significantly better than being in the Philippines?
