4. Applicability
A. Aft Fairing are divided into zone 1, zone 2 and zone 3 (Figure 102):
NOTE: • If the distance between any two damaged areas is greater than or equal to 5D
(diameter of the circle which covers the largest damage), each damage is treated as
a single damage (Figure 104, case 1).
HARD COPY IS UNCONTROLLED. ONCE PRINTED, THIS PAGE MUST NOT BE RETAINED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
• If the distance between any two damaged areas is less than 5D, the circle that
covers the damaged areas is considered as one single damaged area (Figure 104,
case 2).
BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
E. No damage is allowed in the attachment regions, zone 1 (Figure 102). The damage must be at
least 25.4 mm (1.0 in) away from edges of this zone.
F. No damage is allowed in the zone 2. Damage must be at least 15 mm (0.59 in) away from the aft
heat shield edges.
G. Damage is not allowed in riveting or fastener area. This area is defined as a circumference within
a minimum of two times rivet, screw or bolt diameter (Figure 103).
H. The dent depth must not exceed 1.4 mm (0.055 in). Dent ratio W/H (length/depth) < 25 is not
acceptable on structure.
I. No damage is allowed in the aft fairing lower panel.
J. If the conditions above are not satisfied, contact Embraer.
5. Allowable Damage Limits andProcedures
A. Clean the damaged area (SRM PART II 51-70-05).
B. Remove all liquid contaminants from the damaged area (SRM PART II 51-70-03).
C. Measure the damage dimensions. It must be within the limits given in Table 101. If not, contact
Embraer.
538, 546, 552, 554, 557, 651, 664, 666, 672, 673, 679
(1) Perform special detailed inspection (tap or ultrasonic test) of the adjacent area to determine
all of the damage extension. In case of thickness reduction damage it is not necessary.
NOTE: It is acceptable to use a combination of a tap test and visual inspection. However, it
may be difficult to determine the extend of the damage by these methods.
