- Meaning: Although it is said that; Nonetheless

- Meaning: Might; Capable of (negative connotation)
- Example: そんなことを言ったら、誤解を招きかねないよ。
- Translation: If you say that, it might cause
misunderstanding.

3. **～にもかかわらず**
- Meaning: Despite; In spite of
- Example: 雨にもかかわらず、試合が行われた。
- Translation: Despite the rain, the match was held.

4. **～ものの**
- Meaning: Although; Despite
- Example: 車を買ったものの、運転する時間がない。
- Translation: Although I bought a car, I don’t have time
to drive it.

- Meaning: In the end; After
- Example: 長い時間議論したあげく、結論が出なかった。

- Meaning: Merely; Nothing more than
- Example: それはただの噂にすぎない。
- Translation: That is merely a rumor.

- Translation: Since I made a promise, I will definitely
keep it.

8. **～ざるを得ない**
- Meaning: Cannot help (doing); Have no choice but to
- Example: この問題は複雑で、専門家に頼らざるを得ない。
- Translation: This problem is complicated, so we have
no choice but to rely on an expert.

9. **～つつある**
- Meaning: In the process of (doing)
- Example: 経済は回復しつつある。
- Translation: The economy is in the process of
recovering.

- Meaning: Cannot (due to social/moral reasons)
- Example: 今日は試験があるから、休むわけにはいかない。
- Translation: I can’t take a day off because I have an
exam today.
