DIVER CONTINUING EDUCATION

Technical Course (NAUI)

Specialty Courses (PADI)
NAUI Technical Course

Sidemount Diver - Sidemount gear configuration offers an alternative to

the traditional back mounted scuba cylinder(s) configuration. The NAUI
Sidemount Diver course provides you with the skills and knowledge
needed to conduct open water dives utilizing this particular gear
configuration. Upon successful completion divers will be competent to
use sidemount gear configuration in additional training and diving
opportunities.

Technical Decompression Diver - This course provides you with the

theory, methods, and procedures of planned staged decompression
diving while using optimal breathing gas mixtures. Participants will learn
how to plan and conduct a standard staged decompression dive to
depths not exceeding 130 fsw (40 msw).

Rebreather Diving - Experience the underwater environment like never

before. Observe sea life closer than you ever thought possible and
explore underwater attractions in intimate detail as you silently move
through the underwater world. Rebreathers remain the domain of the
most serious and committed divers, but as technology improves and
costs come down, the use of semi-closed and closed circuit rebreathers
continues to attract new participants. Rebreathers have their
advantages, but they require exceptional commitment and dedication to
proper training and procedure.

Rebreathers approved for training by NAUI are listed below:

 MK 15
 MK 16 MOD 0: Air Diluent 150fsw / HeO2 200fsw MILITARY
 MK 16 MOD 1: Air Diluent 190fsw / HeO2 300fsw MILITARY
 PRISM TOPAZ
 OXILUNG (MILITARY)
 LAR V (MILITARY)
 VOYAGER CCR AND SCR
 The Evolution
 The Inspiration
 Poseidon Mk VI Discovery
 InnerSpace Systems Megalodon
 Hollis Prism 2
 JJ CCR
 Hollis Explorer
 Aqua lung FROG
Cavern Diver - The NAUI Cavern Diver course provides you with the
fundamental skills and knowledge needed for cavern diving at depths not
exceeding 100 fsw (30 msw) and at a combined depth and distance
penetration not exceeding 200 feet (61 meters) from the surface.
Participants will become proficient in the use of lines reels while handling
a light, team and line placement, zero visibility/touch contact
communications while following a line, as well as many other skills that
are necessary to be a competent Cavern Diver.

Cave Diver (Levels I & II) - Does the thought of diving through an
underwater cave intrigue you? Are you fascinated by the possibility of
diving where few divers go? The NAUI Cave Diver Levels I and II
courses build on skills and knowledge taught in the Cavern Diver course.
Upon successful completion of the NAUI Cave Diver Level I course, you
are qualified to plan and execute limited-penetration, simple navigation,
no-decompression cave dives to depths that do not exceed 100 fsw (30
msw). NAUI Cave Diver Level II are qualified to plan and execute longer
penetration cave dives with staged cylinders involving complex
navigation to depths that do not exceed 130 fsw (40 msw).

Wreck Penetration Diver - The NAUI Wreck Penetration Diver course

provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to minimize risks in
penetration wreck diving at depths not exceeding 130 fsw (40 msw).
Wreck penetration diving is any diving inside a sunken vessel, aircraft, or
similar structure. Learn about the safety hazards and special risks of
overhead environments, gas management, entanglement, limited
visibility, NAUI Technical Equipment Configuration (NTEC), specialized
equipment utilized in wreck penetration diving, search methods,
underwater navigation, legal aspects, artifacts, treasure, salvage,
archaeology, and more.

Technical Wreck Penetration Diver - The NAUI Technical Wreck

Penetration Diver course is a combination of technical diving and wreck
exploration. This course provides you with the skills and knowledge
needed to minimize risks in penetration wreck diving at depths beyond
130 fsw (40 msw) and utilize trimix for dives to depths not exceeding 180
fsw (55 msw) that require staged-decompression, utilizing EANx
mixtures and/or oxygen during decompression.
Mine Diver (Levels I and II) - Mine divers explore abandoned and
flooded mine shafts left from bygone days when a particular site was an
active mining operation. The NAUI Mine Diver Level I and Level II
courses teaches the specific skills and knowledge needed to gain
experience and minimize risk during mine diving operations. Level I Mine
Divers are qualified to penetrate to a maximum depth of 100 feet (30
meters) with simple navigation while observing no-decompression limits.
Level II Mine Divers are qualified to plan and execute longer penetration
mine dives with staged cylinders involving complex navigation to depths
that do not exceed 130 feet (40 meters).

Diver Propulsion Vehicle Technical (DPVT) Diver - The NAUI Diver

Propulsion Vehicle Technical (DPVT) Diver course provides you with the
introductory skills and knowledge needed to minimize risks while
conducting dives with a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) in open water.

Nitrox Gas Blender and Oxygen Service Technician - This course is

designed to provide the student with the skills and knowledge needed to
safely handle high pressure gases, prepare enriched air (nitrox) gas
mixes and prepare equipment for oxygen service.

First Aid, CPR and Oxygen Administration - Despite all the best
training and planning, sometimes the unexpected happens. Whether due
to environmental conditions, medical emergencies or accident, divers
and professionals may be called upon to intervene. In order to be
prepared, NAUI provides training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Bloodborne
Pathogens, Oxygen Administration and First Aid for Hazardous Marine
Life Injuries. All training complies with the latest International Liaison
Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) standards.
In addition to meeting NAUI requirements for leadership and dive safety,
NAUI training is recognized by the US Coast Guard for meeting the
requirements for a US Captain’s Licensing. Certification at the
professional rescuer level is also required for all active NAUI leaders and
instructors and rescue divers.
PADI Specialty Courses

Peak Performance Buoyancy - Excellent buoyancy control is what

defines skilled scuba divers. You've seen them underwater. They glide
effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by
thought.
Scuba Diving and Neutral Buoyancy
Buoyancy control is essential to becoming a confident, relaxed diver.
Being perfectly balanced allows you to float effortlessly, use air more
efficiently and deftly approach skittish marine life to get a closer look.

Enriched Air Nitrox - Enriched air, also known as nitrox or EANx,

contains less nitrogen than regular air. Breathing less nitrogen means
you can enjoy longer dives and shorter surface intervals.

Underwater Navigator - It’s easy to get disoriented underwater if you

don’t know how to use a compass or natural navigation clues. Learn how
to easily find your way back to boat or shore without returning to the
surface and avoid long, exhausting swims.

Deep Diver - Learn how to plan deep dives, manage your gas supply
and how to identify and manage narcosis.

Self-Reliant Diver - With proper training, equipment and the right

attitude to accept the risks involved in independent diving, an experience
diver can responsibly engage in dives without a buddy. Self-reliant diving
is an adventure activity that is not for everyone, but does have its place.
If you have the mental discipline and commitment to learn and follow
self-reliant diving techniques, you'll bolster your skills and confidence
when diving alone, in a dive pair or as part of a team.

Search and Recovery Diver - Learn how to find lost objects underwater.
You’ll practice different types of underwater search patterns and learn
how to use a lift bag as you plan and execute mock search operations.
Sidemount Diver - Discover the balance and efficiency of sidemount
scuba diving with your PADI dive instructor. Many divers find sidemount
tanks are more comfortable and easier to put on in the water. Sidemount
diving is also beneficial for divers who want improved balance and
prolonged dives.
