I am extremely interested in pursuing my PhD in Fall-2013 in the
field of ....., particularly ......... I have gone through some of your
research projects. I strongly feel that my research goals will be
satisfied working under your supervision and hence I decided to write
to you. I completed my B.E. in Electronics & Telecommunication
Engineering in 2012 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India-
one of the premier Engineering institutes in the country. Since July
23rd 2012, I am employed with Hewlett Packard India Software
Operation Pvt. Ltd. as a System Software R&D Engineer working
in the department of ...... Currently I am associated with the compiler
design and maintenance team of HP OpenVMS Lab.
During my under-graduate years, apart from maintaining a high GPA
all along, I have been involved and interested in various research
projects on the fields like Artificial Intelligence, Machine
Learning, Data Mining, Robotics, Computational Intelligence
(Swarm Intelligence), Wireless Sensor Network, and Digital
Signal Processing. I have used and modified different Evolutionary
Algorithms like Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization,
Differential Evolution, Bio-geography Based Optimization, Ant
Colony, etc in the process. I had undergone two Summer Internships,
one from IIT Delhi under Dr. B.K. Panigrahi on Economic Load
Dispatch in 2010 and another from NTU Singapore under Dr. P.N.
Suganthan on Manufacturing-Remanufacturing models and
Flexible Flowshop Problems in 2012. I have also undergone an
industrial training from S&T Department of Eastern Railway,
India Govt. on different communication systems, viz. 7 Ghz
Microwave, OFC, MTRC, Rail Net & Electronic Exchange in 2011.
Besides, In 2012, I also got selected in the projects: i) Development of
‘Timing & Triggering Control Receiver Circuit (TTCrx) for Large
Hadron Collider’ at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, ii) Human
Centric Systems Research group at Tata Research Development
and Design Centre (TRDDC), Pune and iii) tentatively selected
in URGI, IIT Rajasthan Summer Internship Project (Project no.
. I have co-authored several International Conference papers which

have been accepted in reputed International Conferences (CEC,
SOCO, SEMCCO and IEEE conferences). I have recently submitted a
few International Journal Papers which are under review now.
Apart from that, I am a member of Sankalpa Student Chapter
(SSC) where our team is involved in various innovative scientific
research projects for rural development and social entrepreneurship. I
was actively involved in designing and building our SSC
site [Link] SSC is a part
of the NGO Sankalpa family headed by Dr. Subhrankar Mukherjee,
Affiliate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Colorado
State University.
I earnestly urge to continue pursuing higher studies and research. I
am keen to expand my knowledge on .... by pursuing PhD and
independent research which is hardly possible in a corporate
environment right from the outset. I like to develop innovative ideas,
formulate algorithms and implement them practically. As such I
fervently feel that my aim will be fulfilled under your esteemed
guidance. Hence I shall be immensely grateful if you kindly consider
me as a potential candidate for pursuing Ph.D. under your guidance
with any upcoming research assistantship for fall 2013, you may have.
