COLLIN PET for SCHOOL - Test 1

*Speaking Part 1
Examiner:Good afternoon.
Can I have your mark sheets, please?
I’m Simon Rickard and this is Cathy Irving.
What’s your name, Candidate A? How old are you?

Candidate A:My name’s Joshua Kulig and I’m 13 years old.

Examiner:And what’s your name, Candidate B? How old are you?

Candidate B: My name’s Evi Khomyakova and I’m 14 years old.

Examiner: Candidate B, where do you live?

Candidate B: I live in Moscow. I live with my mum, dad and two sisters. We have an
apartment in the city centre.

Examiner:And Candidate A, where do you live?

Candidate A: I live in Switzerland. I live with my family in an apartment in a small

village near the mountains.

Examiner: Candidate A, have you got any hobbies or interests?

Candidate A:I’m learning to play the piano. I go to classes after school and I also
practise at home.

Examiner:Candidate B, what do you do to relax?

Candidate B: I enjoy listening to music and reading books. I also go to art classes
because I’m keen on painting and drawing.

Examiner: Candidate A, tell me about your family.

Candidate A: My mother works as a teacher in a big school and my father is a police

officer. I haven’t got any brothers or sisters but my cousins live in the same village.

Examiner: Candidate B, tell me about your favourite subject at school.

Candidate B: Well, I like English and we’ve got a very nice teacher. I also like maths
and I think that’s really useful too.

**Speaking Part 2
Examiner: Now I’d like each of you to talk on your own about something. I’m going to
give each of you a photograph and I’d like you to talk about it.
Candidate A. Here is your photograph. It shows people out shopping. Please tell us what
you can see in the photograph.
Candidate B, you just listen.

Candidate A:
This photograph shows a family out shopping. There are four people in the family –
mum, dad and their two children, a boy who looks about five years old and a girl who’s a
little bit older. I think they’re paying for their shopping in a supermarket. They’re
standing at the checkout and on the left of the photo you can see a man’s arm. He works
at the checkout and he’s taking something from the little boy. There’s some fruit –
bananas and apples and a small orange – by the checkout. I think the man has said
something funny because the family are all laughing. It’s a very happy photograph.

Examiner:
Thank you.

Examiner: Candidate B. Here is your photograph. It shows some young people in a

classroom. Please tell us what you can see in the photograph. Candidate A, you just
listen.

Candidate B:
This photograph is of a classroom with a small group of students working at their desks.
The girl sitting nearest to the camera is the main person in the photograph. She has long
blonde hair and is wearing a T-shirt. She looks about 13 or 14 years old. There’s a boy
sitting behind her in a checked shirt and behind him is another girl. There are three other
people in the photo – a boy and a girl sitting next to each other at the back, and one we
can’t really see at the front. The ones at the back are near the window and the sun is
shining on them both. They’re all working very hard and making notes from books.

Examiner: Thank you.

***Speaking Part 3
Examiner: Now, in this part of the test you are going to talk about something together
for about two minutes. I'm going to describe a situation to you.
A girl is going on holiday with her parents. She wants to buy something to eat on the
journey.
Here are some things she could buy to eat on the journey.
Talk together about the different things she could get and say which one would be best.
All right? Now, talk together.
Candidate A: So, we need to choose something that she can eat on the journey to her
holiday. All of these things are OK apart from the ice-cream. That wouldn't last very
long. What do you think?
Candidate B: Yes, I agree. Actually, I don't think any of the sweet things are a very good
idea. The cake and the chocolate are very sweet and she could get travel sick.
Candidate A: Yes, that's true even though they're my favourite things. I think the chips
are like the ice cream. They need to be eaten quickly. Cold pizza isn't really very nice
either, is it?
Candidate B: No, I don't like cold pizza. So that just leaves the fruit and the sandwich.
When I go on a long journey, I always feel hungry, so I think I would prefer to have a
sandwich instead of an apple. What about you?
Candidate A: Yes, I agree. The family can stop somewhere to get something to eat if
they want, can't they. Especially if it's a long journey. But yes, let's say the sandwich is
the best thing to buy, shall we?
Candidate B: Yes, let's say that.
Examiner: Thank you.

****Speaking Part 4
Examiner: Candidate A, do you like going on long journeys?
Candidate A: Sometimes, yes. I like travelling in my mum's car because we listen to
music and sing some songs. It's always a lot of fun.
Examiner: And what about you, Candidate B?
Candidate B: I'm the same. I prefer to travel by car. It can be a little boring waiting for a
train at the station and maybe a bit stressful if the trains are cancelled. I like the car
much better for a long journey.
Examiner: Candidate B, what do you like to take with you on a journey?
Candidate B: Well, I love to read and so a book would be great. But the problem is I get
travel sick when I read in a car, so I don't take one anymore.
Examiner: And how about you, Candidate A?
Candidate A: I like to read as well, maybe not a book but a magazine. Of course, I also
like to take my phone. I can message my friends, listen to music, watch videos, that kind
of thing.
Examiner: Candidate B, is it better to travel during the day or late at night?
Candidate B: When I go on holiday with my parents, we often travel in the evening. My
dad says it's much quicker because there's not so much traffic.
Examiner: And what about you, Candidate A?
Candidate A: I think it's better to travel at night as the roads are quieter. But maybe it's
more difficult for the driver if it's dark. Also, the driver might feel more tired if it's later
in the day.
Examiner: Thank you. That is the end of the test.
