DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

SCIENCE 3RD GRADE

1) Read the text and answer the following questions. Remember to study the keywords.

The Digestive System

The digestive system helps our body use food. It starts in the mouth. We bite and chew the food with
our teeth. Our saliva makes the food soft. Then, we swallow the food. It
goes down a long tube called the esophagus.
The food goes into the stomach. The stomach is like a bag. It has acid
and muscles. The stomach mixes the food and makes it smaller. After
that, the food goes to the small intestine.
In the small intestine, the food breaks down more. The body takes the
good parts of the food. These parts give us energy. The rest of the food
goes to the large intestine.
In the large intestine, the body takes water from the food. The waste
leaves the body later.
The digestive system has many parts: the mouth, esophagus, stomach,
small intestine, large intestine, liver, and pancreas. All these parts work
together to help us stay healthy.
