2. PROPOSED ARCHITECTURE

PROBUS SMART THINGS. CONFIDENTIAL 4

The proposed architecture has been defined after careful consideration of the technical
specifications and detailed feasibility of the solution proposed.

As per the proposed technical architecture, the Gateway device shall act as the central device in the
sub-station.

Transformer sensors – Oil temperature, Winding Temperature and Tap change position inputs shall
directly be taken into Gateway ADC with 4-20mA inputs. This also includes the DC battery and
capacitor bank inputs into the Gateway with MFM from each Transformer.

Gateway is connected to the DCU/RTU from the feeder panels. These connections are on RS485
MODBUS protocol on IEC104.

Each DCU/RTU is connected to the feeder DI inputs, DO and MFM through RS485 on MODBUS.

The various components of the proposed solution are –

1. Gateway
2. RTU/DCU
3. Transformer Sensors
a. Oil level
b. Oil tank temperature
c. Winding temperature
4. Local Data Monitoring Server

Below table specifies the connections with Gateways and DCU/RTU respectively.

2.3 LOCAL DATA MONITORING SYSTEM

A monitoring system that can be used to monitor, configure the devices locally is provided.

1. COMPONENTS –

1.1. FIELD HARDWARE

A. The field hardware with various DI/DOs can operate on any Internet protocol such as
HTTPS/MQTT/IEC104

B. Whenever data is received at DI pins on the field hardware, it will publish immediately
to the monitoring system. Similarly when a command or control data is sent by web
users or SCADA the field hardware will receive and pass it to respective DO pins. The
status shall be shown on the monitoring system.

C. The field deployed hardware is configured through a web dashboard provided as a part
of SDA. These configurations are like APN setting, log level, ping frequency, data
frequency, etc.

1.2. CONFIGURATION AND HEALTH DASHBOARD WITH MANAGEMENT WEB

SERVICE

A. It is a GUI based application to configure the field hardware, view stats, health, manage
master mapping of IO addresses etc.

B. Users can view various parameters like ping, health and controls and command can also
be sent through GUI.
