Course Description:

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. Senior High School students
have to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to his/her postsecondary goal.
Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and familiarized with work environment
related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students are
able to: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and
workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in
school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills; (iv) enrich their skills in communication
and human relations; and (v) develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for
work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of employment or higher education
after graduation.

Objectives:

Work Immersion aims to develop among the learners’ life and career skills, and prepares them to
make decisions on postsecondary education or employment. Through partnership building, DepEd
hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide learners with work immersion opportunities,
workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning resources. It aims to make the learners:

1. appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in
school;

2. enhance their technical knowledge and skills;

3. enrich their skills in communication and human relations; and

4. develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.

Implementation during Crisis Situation

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction, through the Bureau of Curriculum Development (BCD),
issues Memorandum DM-CI 2020-00085, Guidelines for Work Immersion Implementation of all
Senior High Schools during crisis situation.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused massive disruption in the education sector. In the
context of basic education, crisis is a condition in which the regular operation of schools including
the relevant offices in the division, region, and central levels is suspended; and its learners’
physical attendance in school is prohibited or limited.

In the Senior High School, the implementation of Work Immersion, which is a required subject
for the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track is assumed to be severely affected in this
scenario. However, learning should not stop even during crisis situations. While limitations for
learners and schools are recognized, the Department should take a proactive stance in anticipating
and planning for various service delivery conditions.

Work Immersion aims to provide SHS learners with opportunities to familiarize themselves with
the workplace; to simulate employment and to apply their competencies in areas of
specialization/applied subjects in authentic work environments. However, its implementation must
be flexible enough to fit the complex setup and needs of learners, schools and partner institutions
in the country.

Below are the different suggested models for Work Immersion (ABM/GAS):
Model A: Simulation or operation of a micro business enterprise in the Barangay.
Model B: Taking part in the operation of an existing business for a community with
an industry partnership.
Model C: Online selling or online business simulation for ABM students especially
when a lockdown is being implemented in the community.
Model D: Drafting a business proposal employing the different analysis tools like
SWOT and appropriate in the current condition of their locality.

This module is developed as an instructional material for learners and schools who adopts Model
D.

Rationale

This workbook is made for the Work Immersion students and teachers in order to facilitate
the learning process. This book will remind the learners’ responsibility expected of them as Work
Immersion students and to acknowledge the different learning acquired in the course of the Work
Immersion. Documentation of outputs and photos of the highlights of the course are encouraged
to be posted in this portfolio which may also serve as the narrative report of the students as a final
requirement of the course.

The use of this workbook on the part of the Work Immersion Teacher is expected to be
relevant in achieving the very goal of the immersion which is to provide industry experience. This
book is systematically arranged for grading and documentation purposes. Rubric as to how the
student will be graded for every week of his/her reflection is also provided.

The author hopes that both the teacher and the students may find this workbook necessary
and beneficial to fulfill the requirements and ensure a meaningful undertaking of work immersion
as a subject for the K-12 curriculum.

How to use this workbook?

Below are the suggested steps on how to effectively use this workbook:
1. Fill out first the Personal Information.
2. Fill out the Daily Task Record everyday or every time that you will have your duty. The
purpose of such is to monitor the different performances and tasks performed already by the
learner. This is a very good source of information as to how the work immersion teachers respond
to the designed training plan.
3. Answer the guide questions in the Weekly Diary. It is where the experiences, the learnings
and challenges of the week may be written as part of the reflection processes of the student. Your
honest reflections are hereby encouraged.
4. Share your experiences through posting your outputs and photos of your work immersion
highlights in the week. In so doing the school has its way of monitoring the different tasks you
perform in the site.
