1. List of experiments
1. Measuring the diameter of a small spherical / cylindrical object using Vernier calipers.
2. To measure the internal diameter and depth of a given beaker/calorimeter using vernier callipers and find its volume.
3. Measuring the diameter of a given wire and the thickness of a given sheet by screw gauge.
4. To determine the volume of an irregular sheet given by a screw gauge.
5. To find the radius of curvature of a spherical surface using a spherometer. 6. To determine the mass of two different
bodies using a bar balance.
7. Finding the weight of a given body by using the parallelogram law of vectors.
8. Plot L-T2 graph using simple pendulum and find the effective length of secondary pendulum using suitable graph.
9. Find the time period of a simple pendulum of a given length carrying spheres of same size but different masses study
the variance and interpret the results.
10. To find Young's modulus of elasticity of a given wire material. 11. To study the relation between temperature and
time of a hot object by drawing a cooling curve.
12. To find the specific heat of a given solid by heat capacity mixture method.
13. To study the relation between the length and frequency of a given string at constant tension using a sonometer.
14. To find the speed of sound at room temperature by using a resonance tube and finding two resonance conditions.
15. To study the relation between limiting friction force and normal reaction force and the relation between a block and
a plane.
16. Find the value of force applied between rollers on an inclined plane under gravity and find the ratio of force and sine
of the roller.
To study the angle of inclination of an inclined plane by plotting a graph between the two.
Note:- It is mandatory to perform any 10 experiments from the given list of experiments.
Suggestive activity
1. Make a paper vernier scale of a given least count, (e.g., 0.2 cm 0.5 cm).
2. Find the mass of a given body using a metre scale by the principle of moment.
3. To study the effect of load on the inclination of a suitably clamped metre scale, when the load is mounted at (i) the
ends of the scale (ii) the middle of the scale.
4. To measure the limiting friction force for rotating a roller on a horizontal plane.
5. To study the variation in horizontal range of a projectile with angle of projection.
6. To study the energy dissipation of a simple pendulum by plotting a graph between square of amplitude and time.
7. To study the time period of a simple pendulum oscillating with a large amplitude and draw a graph between T-T0 and
amplitude (angle), where T is the time period of a simple pendulum oscillating with a large amplitude and To is the time
period of a simple pendulum oscillating with a large amplitude.
The time period of a simple pendulum is obtained from the formula T=2π√L/g
8. To study phase and phase difference in SHM using two uniform simple pendulums.
9. Observe the change in state of molten wax and create a cooling forest.
9. Observe and explain the effect of heat on a bimetallic strip.
11. To note the change in the level of a liquid in a container on heating and interpret the observations. 12. To study the
effect of detergent on the surface tension of water by observing capillary rise.
13. To study the factors affecting the rate of cooling (heat loss) of a liquid.
