Assignment (Unit-5)
1) A 400 Watts carrier is modulated to a depth of 75 %. Find the total power in the
AM wave. Assume the modulating signal to be a sinusoidal one.
2) An AM broadcast radio transmitter indicates 10 KW watts of power if
modulation percentage is 60. Calculate how much of this the carrier power?
3) The antenna current of an AM transmitter is 8 A, if only the carrier is sent, but it
increases to 8.93 A, if the carrier is modulated by a signal sinusoidal wave.
Determine the percentage modulation. Also find the antenna current if the
percentage of modulation changes to 0.8.
4) An AM transmitter radiates 9 KW of power when the carrier is un-modulated
and 10.125 KW, when the carrier is sinusoidal modulated. Find the modulation
index, percentage of modulation. Now, if another sine wave corresponding to 40
% modulation is transmitted simultaneously, then calculate the total radiated
power.
5) Calculate the percentage of power saving when one side band and carrier is
suppressed in AM signal with modulation index equal to one.
6) A sinusoidal carrier of 1 MHz and amplitude 100 V is AM by a sinusoidal
modulating signal frequency 5 KHz providing 50% modulation. Calculate the
frequency and amplitude of USB (Upper Side Band) & LSB (Lower Side Band).
7) An audio frequency signal 5 Sin (2 × 500t) is used to AM a carrier of 25 Sin (2
× 105t). Calculate:
i. ma (Modulation Index).
ii. Amplitude of each side band.
iii. Pt (Total Power)
iv. BW (Bandwidth)
v. Transmission Efficiency (ɳ)
8) The un-modulated RMS current of an AM wave is 8.93 A, and it increases to
11.25 A with modulation. Determine the modulation index.
9) A 320 Watt carrier is simultaneously modulated by two audio waves with
modulation percentage of 45 and 60 respectively. Determine the side band power
radiated.
10) Explain the Demodulation technique of AM waves.
