1. A random (large) sample of 100 articles taken from a large batch of articles contains 7 defectives. Perform a large-sample test at 5% level of significance for testing whether

2. The daily yield at a chemical plant, recorded for 50 days, possesses a sample mean of 884 tons. Do the data provide enough evidence to indicate that the average daily yield of the
chemical plant is 900 tons per day? Test at 1% level of significance assuming normality with variance 100 tons. Would your decision change if the population variance was unknown
and sample variance would be 110 tons?

3. The weights of seven synthetic diamonds generated by a new process are measured to evaluate the profitability of the process. The weights (in carat) are as follows:
0.62 0.45 0.48 0.59 0.57 0.51 0.57
Test at 5% level whether the variability of the weights in the entire process is 6%.
4. An automotive engineer wants to see if high-octane petrol gives more mileage than regular octane does. Two samples of cars are selected and mileages for high-octane and regular
octane are used for the two groups of cars. The following quantities are obtained:

Assuming normality of the mileage data, 


(i) test at 5% level whether the variability in the mileage with the high-octane petrol and with the regular octane petrol are more or less equal.(ii) Also test at 5% level whether the cars
using the high-octane petrol give more mileage assuming normality with the equality of the population standard deviations for both types of petrol. 
5. Simple random sample of electric bulbs produced by three companies show the following data on life-hours of the bulbs:

Assuming normality of the life-hours, analyse the data to test whether the average life-hours of the bulbs produced by three companies are equal or not.
6. A dietician wants to see if a new diet based on oat bran can reduce a person’s cholesterol level. The cholesterol level of six random individuals before and after applying the new
diet are as follows:

Do you think at 5% level that the new diet can serve its purpose? Justify from the data. Also

Test whether there is any association between economic level and academic level for the Indian
students.
2. An extensive study was conducted to understand whether the composition of academicians class, corporal class, labourers class and administrative class in the professional world
remain same for the five countries C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5. A sample of 100 individuals was observed and the outputs are as follows:

3. Suppose the marks (in percentage) of the 80 graduate students sampled randomly from Presidency University are presented through the following grouped frequency distribution:

Test whether marks of the graduate students of Presidency University is normally distributed.
4. The reaction times (in seconds) in five independent runs of a chemical experiment are 4, 5.5, 3.8, 4.8, 6 respectively. Test using an appropriate testing procedure whether reaction
time average is 4 or more. If another experiment shows the run times as 3.5, 4.3, 5.2, 4.8, 6.6, 4.5 in six runs, do you think that both the experiments have on an average equal
reaction time?
