Document Structure and Content Analysis

The vacuum forming process involves heating a plastic sheet above a mold until it becomes soft and pliable. A vacuum is applied below the mold, pushing the softened plastic against the mold's shape. Once cooled, the molded plastic piece is removed from the mold. Vacuum forming allows for intricate shapes to be formed from plastic with relative ease.

Y e former is placed in a vacuum former
á A seet of plastic (for example,
compressed polystyrene) is clamped in
position above te mould
˜ e eater is ten turned on and te
plastic slowly becomes soft and pliable
as it eats up e plastic can be seen to
'warp' and 'distort' as te surface
expands
After a few minutes te plastic is ready
for ¶forming· as it becomes very flexible
° e eater is turned off and te mould
is moved upwards by lifting te lever until
it locks in position
` e 'vacuum' is turned on and tis pumps out all te air
beneat te plastic seet Atmosperic pressure above te
plastic seet puses it down on te mould At tis stage te
sape of te mould can be clearly seen troug te plastic
seet Wen te plastic as cooled sufficiently te vacuum
pump is switced off
e plastic seet is removed from te
vacuum former e seet as te sape of
te former pressed into its surface
ð e excess plastic is trimmed so tat
only te plastic bowl remains - te
