fix in r28134. repro:

./configure --prefix ~/tmp/.rvm/1.9.2-p0 && make && make install

repro is having dot file in install destination path.

rvm is huge in the linux (esp ubuntu/debian family) world. This also =
affects my multiruby (~/.multiruby/install/$version).
