Awards and Recognitions​

Rakuten received an upgraded rating from MSCI, from "A" to "AA", placing the company among "Leaders" – organizations with strong ESG performance.
Rakuten is included in the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index and the MSCI ESG Leaders index. These indexes list companies that exhibit a commitment towards promoting and maintaining a high level of gender diversity and ESG performance, while maintaining superior financial quality.

Rakuten is selected for inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series, the FTSE Blossom Japan Index and the FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index, all of which consist of global companies that demonstrate strong ESG and sustainability practices. The FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index has been adopted by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) as a benchmark for its passive investments since March 2022.

Rakuten is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index. These indices comprise globally listed companies that excel in long-term sustainability strategies and practices.

Developed by the Japan Exchange Group and S&P Dow Jones Indices, this index is designed to measure the performance of companies in the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), while overweighting or underweighting those that have lower or higher levels of carbon emissions per unit of revenue. Rakuten has been classified as part of the first decile, considered as highly carbon efficient among the Retailing constituents.

In 2022, Rakuten was given a score of A- in the CDP's annual Climate Change report. CDP's disclosure system is widely recognized as a global standard for climate-related information by businesses and investors. More than 18,600 companies answered the 2022 CDP survey.

In 2021, Rakuten was certified as an Eco-First company by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. The Eco-First Program recognizes companies that are engaged and leading in advanced and independent industry-led environmental activities. Upon obtaining this certification and as part of its "Eco-First Commitment," Rakuten announced its commitment to continue carrying out environmental conservation initiatives at a group level. 

Since 2015, Rakuten has received Gold Level in the PRIDE Index developed by work with Pride, an organization that promotes LGBTQ+-initiatives in Japan.

Rakuten is recognized as a White 500 company under the Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organizations Recognition Program. Promoted by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Health Council, this program recognizes outstanding companies for their efforts to enhance employee wellness. 

Rakuten is certified as a Sports Yell Company by the Japan Sports Agency, a certification that recognizes companies promoting sports activities to improve employees' health.  Rakuten's initiatives to enhance awareness of a healthy lifestyle include stretching sessions at company-wide weekly morning meetings, online fitness programs, events that promote exercise with the help of a mobile app and online health seminars. Rakuten will continue to improve its employee's wellness by leveraging its cutting-edge technologies.
