Thank you, I'll check them out. I am using Inkscape and Fontforge so far, but it's kinda hard to do stuff in FF, especially the kerning (kinda stuck on it lol). Is the kerning in Font Creator easier?

Yes, that's right. As far as I know you can also do that with most itch games as well, since they also don't have any form of DRM.

It's this kind of trust that has actually prompted me to buy more games without DRM (even though I could just as easily pirate them), since you can download offline installers that will work without 3rd party servers that may or may not exist in the future. Almost as if you actually own what you bought. I want to support that mindset.

Are you familiar with GOG? It's a site that has this whole gimmick of selling only DRM-free games. Judging by their extensive game catalogue, a lot of developers and publishers are okay with releasing a DRM-free version of their game. I wouldn't say it has hurt their sales in the slightest. On the contrary, a lot of people (me included) prefer to buy DRM-free whenever possible, because DRM is just scummy.

Just look at companies who implement heavy DRM (blizzard and EA come to mind). Generally their reputation among gamers is not really great. I wonder if the two are related.

If you need examples, here's the latest of many. Where do we draw the line between "delayed" and "abandoned"? Because my oldest request without an answer is almost 6 months old.

I'm sorry you have to be at the receiving end of user frustrations (mine included), you are always super active and helpful in these forums and I apologize. It's just that the deserving parties are sadly unresponsive, which is the whole root of the problem.

I appreciate your concern, but I did not create this topic to get my support tickets answered by "getting to the front of the line". I am genuinely asking what's wrong with support, or if I'm doing it somehow wrong. It seems I'm not the only one either - this forum is full of people reporting the same thing - how they were ghosted by the support team.

I have reached out to support three times for different reasons, and neither time have I received any response or action. Only an automated response that my mail has been received. Is this the norm? If so, why even have a support mail, if it's going to be treated as fan mail? I know itch is a small platform with a small staff team, but it's very unprofessional to ignore support requests weeks and months on end.

It's especially funny that in order to post this thread I have to agree to having read the rules, which tell me explicitly to go contact support three times for various reasons.

It sounds like what burns you out is not the pixel art itself, but the freelance portion of it. Without fixed work hours it's really hard to put a stop to workaholism, since every activity you do that is not work-related feels like a waste of potential money.

Try to decide upon specific work hours, and enforce them strictly. Even thinking about work should be forbidden outside of those hours. That way, you can carve some time for hobbies, rest and socializing again. Don't neglect those things, they are what keep you productive during your worktime. Without them, it's straight down to burnoutville.

The other option is to find a contract job as a pixel artist. Having a regular job doesn't necessarily mean "cashier, cleaner etc". You already have great pixel art skills and a portfolio, you can just start sending it to game development studios that might be looking for pixel artists. You never know, they might be looking exactly for someone like you. And you lose nothing by trying. Having a regular paycheck and predetermined working hours will do wonders for you.

It is a bit buggy on Firefox though, any chance for a downloadable version for Linux or Windows? And a look sensitivity slider would be really nice, it was way too slow for me. Got a handache from turning so much :D

Some kind of skybox that isn't pure white would be nice. Maybe even a day-night cycle?
An in-game browser for user levels would also be pretty awesome.

I'd also advocate for a Linux version, but everything runs so well with Proton these days that you needn't bother. Only do it if you want to show some love to us penguins 🐧

I'd say 95% is a bit too high. Maybe 30 - 50% would be more realistic, and it heavily depends on the genre. If it's an immersive game like an RPG I never listen to my own music and don't turn it off, because it ruins the immersion.

And there are also people who will listen to the ingame muaic for the first 10-20 hrs of playtime, then turn it off. I do that for some genres like TD's and sandboxes.

But I think most players will just leave it on, and will notice the absence of music as a flaw (unless it's a conscious design decision, for example in a horror game).

If you can't afford a composer (or don't want to compose music yourself), try including some CC0 royalty free tracks, it might be better than nothing.

I also highly recommend Godot. It's completely free (as in freedom AND as in free beer), is actively developed with new awesome features being added each version, it has amazing community and lots of tutorials, and is easy to pick up (at least it was to me). It's basically the blender of game engines, give it a try!

Well, I did kinda cheat it, because Onyxia's Lair isn't a separate zone (like the arena) and doesn't reset your rage when you enter. So I got a full rage bar fighting kobolds, went in and destroyed her.

I just tried replaying this game, and I couldn't figure out why catching fish was so much harder than before. Turns out, after upgrading my monitor from 60 hz to 180 hz, due to me not factoring the delta into the rod speed calculations, the game difficulty depends on the frame rate. So 180 hz is essentially 3x harder than 60 hz.

If you're having trouble catching fish, cap your monitor refresh rate, lol.

I'm not sure about this, but I think itch only allows payments of $1 and up, because smaller payments get eaten up by fees. Besides, entering your credit card info every time you want to play is way too inconvenient.

If this idea is to be implemented, I think on-site funds need to be implemented first - for example you load 10$ into your site wallet and then you tip away those quarters to your heart's content.

I understand why bundle contents are not added to the library automatically, in order not to bloat it. However, it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some people might want to add the entire bundle to their library, so they can search what they own properly.

So all I'm asking is to give us the option to add it all to the library with one click. Add a warning, sure, but don't make us open hundreds of pages manually one-by-one to add them to the library. I've done that and it's painful, time-consuming and annoying.

Aside from all the "payment processor nonsense", I think having an on-site wallet (similar to steam wallet) would be a huge quality of life addition for the itch users, especially ones that earn money from sales on itch, which they can then directly use to buy other things on itch, without first having to wait for a payout and getting the payment processors involved at all (and dodging some fees along the way too). It's an absolute win-win.

Agreed, better filtering is needed. I actually DID click through all the entries in each bundle to add them to my library, and wanted to ask of there is perhaps an easier way to do that? It's a pain each time I buy a bundle. Can't we have a button to add them all?

And finding a game you "have" but isn't in your library is literally impossible. It's not a good solution.

Lovely little solitaire!

It would be cool to play this on my phone to pass the time. It seems to work somewhat on Android in a browser, but the game area is bigger than the screen area :/

Any chance for an update to make it a bit more mobile-friendly? Or, dare I hope, a dedicated android version?

I absolutely love the new content! This is such a blast of nostalgia from the past! Thank you for continuing to work on this and I can't wait to see more content and the other classes.

However, I do agree with the others about bugs and balance issues. I've compiled a list of feedback from my own playthrough. SPOILERS!

-Misses are simply not a fun mechanic. It wastes your CD, rage, and turn to do nothing, and overpower/revenge doesn't really make up for it in any meaningful way. I'd remove misses altogether, except for a few bosses where it makes sense (Van cleef having dodge for example?).

-Blocking crits should be a thing. If I prepare to block, and get crit instead, it's often a one-shot. At least make blocking reduce crits to a normal hit instead.

-Damage ranges are all over the place. Early levels I only hit for 1, which was a slog. They should be more consistent, even at higher levels I could hit for 100, or for 500. It's too wide a range. This also diminishes the joy of getting crits, because if a hit for 100 gets a crit, it turns into 200, which is not something to get excited about, since I could have normal hits for twice that amount. I also couldn't really "feel" the difference between having Battle Shout on, or any damage reduction from thunderclap - check if AP actually does anything.

-Stats should be better explained - what does STR, AGI, INT do exactly? I couldn't feel an increase in my damage from STR, or my crit chance from AGI. Do they actually work? Does armor do anything? Throughout my playthrough I only felt more powerful when getting a new weapon or when leveling up, not from the rest of my equipment.

-Consider making some abilities not consume your turn - like battle shout, bloodrage, shield block, etc (the non-damaging ones?). This will allow for more strategic plays.

-Consider adding equipment with more interesting effects - for example, reducing ability costs, or making them instant (not take a turn) to allow more build diversity.

-Some of the creature animations are way too slow. Add a "Fast Combat" checkbox in the options to speed combat up?

-Make the completed quests gray in the quest log.

-Some enemies are WAY overtuned - the druid and paladin in the arena are a pure pain to fight. They can instantly heal for 1200 and 2400 respectively, without ANY cost or cooldown, they can just spam the heals, while I'm doing 200-400 dmg per hit and struggling to stay alive against their 600-1000 dmg hits, and then they "erase" the effect of my last 5 turns by healing. It's impossible to keep them silenced permanently with Pummel, Mortal Strike doesn't work, so it's down to RNG if they're gonna heal or not. I barely beat the Druid with crazy luck at lvl 20 and with the best equipment possible... I can't beat the Paladin.
Either add a mana bar for them, or add a CD to their heals, and maybe reduce the amount healed while you're at it.

-BUG: Charge is supposed to ADD rage, not remove it. It only gives you rage if you're below 10. Also 10 rage is too little, make it give 15-20?

-BUG: Your cooldowns don't tick down while you're stunned.

-BUG: Mortal strike doesn't affect enemy heal amount.

-BUG: some dialogues are missing - the middle dwarf in Sentinel Hill (Westfall), after you do his quest, he just repeats the last dialogue you have seen. The green dragon in the swamp (after you get the concealing thing) just doesn't have any dialogue, and pressing "talk" locks the game until you save and reload. The same happens to the chief in the Mulgore camp after completing all quests there.

-BUG?: The stranglethorn harpies don't spawn naturally, but instead replace a tiger sometimes, which is weird.

EDIT: Finally beat the paladin after 20 or so attempts until I got the perfect RNG.

Also 10 gold for the grand marshal items is way too much. After a full playthrough with a good amount of grinding, I only have about 5g. Also some items sell for 0.

BUG: High Priestess Jeklik can heal while silenced by Pummel.

I would recommend open-sourcing the game, so other fans can contribute code and bug fixes, maybe even new content to it. Make it the community labor of love that it's supposed to be. That way you won't have to shoulder all these fixes and development yourself alone. Give it some thought ;)

+1, It would be a real shame if this nifty piece of software was to be abandoned.

Open-sourcing it would be a really nice solution, so other devs can help out, add features and compile it for more OS's.

On the site you wrote that the Linux version was working well, and you just had to find a proper packaging format. Any progress on that?

PixelForge doesn't really like running through Wine, because none of the buttons are click-able. If you're looking for maximum compatibility, I'd recommend making a flatpak, it's pretty much the standard for cross-distro compatibility these days. Appimage also works I guess. Most distros have hacks to install .deb files as well, if that's easier to compile.

I finally decided to ditch Windows and move to Linux, and just now found out all my .pxf files can't be opened :D

It seems the lava world has a texture bug on one side. Especially visible on high resolution while changing the light direction.

1-bit means that bits have 2 states - 0 or 1. In the context of colors that would be black or white. Although you do have a point, because there is a 3rd color, which is the transparency 😁
