Congratulations to our portfolio company Electrified Thermal Solutions, which just hit a major milestone: its first commercial-scale Joule Hive Thermal Battery is now operational in San Antonio. The thermal battery system uses cheaper off-peak electricity to heat metal-oxide firebricks for hours at a time, then deliver the stored heat to industrial furnaces, boilers, and kilns whenever manufacturers need it – helping heavy industries curb emissions. 🔥🧱 Read more from Canary Media Inc.’s Maria Gallucci:
"We've turned on a system that meets industry where they are, and can electrify them while saving them money on their heating bill. And I don't see anything that stops us from mass deployments." — Daniel Stack, CEO Canary Media just covered a major milestone for our team: our first commercial-scale Joule Hive™ Thermal Battery is now operational in San Antonio. The system stores 20 MWh of clean electricity as heat at temperatures up to 1,800°C, hot enough to electrify virtually any industrial process that requires heat, from steel and cement to food and beverage manufacturing. Industrial heat accounts for 20% of global energy consumption and has historically relied on fossil fuels. We're changing that by converting low-cost renewable electricity into industrial-grade heat while enhancing grid resiliency. We're working with partners like ArcelorMittal, with first customer deployments planned for later this year.
