PART II : TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SECTION 1 - SITE CLEARANCE

1.1 GENERAL

The work shall consist all clearing necessary for the performance of the works covered by the
Contract. The Contractor shall demolish, break or remove existing buildings or structures, roads,
fences, shrubs or bushes, trees or any superficial obstructions within the site to an extent as
specified in the Instruction To Tenderers (ITT) or Specifications, or as approved by the Engineer.

Attention is directed to the Contractor's obligations under law and under the Contract with regard
to damage, in particular, with regard to the protection of property, forest and landscape, and
responsibility for damage claims.

Any existing highways and access roads, improvements, facilities, adjacent properties, utilities,
services, trees and plants designated for preservation shall be protected from damage which
could result from the Contractor's operations.

All fossil coins, articles of value or antiquity, structures and other remains or things of geological
or archaelogical interest discovered on Site shall be deemed to be the absolute property of the
Purchaser. The Contractor shall take reasonable precautions to prevent his workmen or any
other persons from removing or damaging the abovementioned article. The Contractor shall
immediately upon discovery and before removal, acquaint the Engineer of such discovery and
carry out at the expense of the Purchaser, the Engineer's orders as to the disposal of the article.

1.2 SITE CLEARING

Subject to the provision as specified under Clause 1.1, and except where recovery is indicated in
the Contract or as directed by the Engineer, all materials arising from site clearance shall be
disposed of by the Contractor either to a disposal tip off or within Site, as approved by the
Engineer. Where concrete or brick materials arising from site clearance are involved, they shall
be broken down to a size approved by the Engineer.

Trees of girth less than 600mm and hedges shall be grubbed up and disposed of off Site. Holes
left by the stumps and roots shall be filled with suitable material compacted in compliance with the
Specification.

1.3 CUTTING DOWN AND CLEARING TREES

Trees where encountered within Site shall be cut down in such a manner so as not to be a
source of danger to pedestrian, traffic or private property.

Proper precaution to divert any traffic shall be taken where trees are too close to existing
highways. Trees shall be restrained by means of stay wires or ropes in order to prevent them
from falling over prior to undertaking of the above.

The Contractor shall obtain approval from the relevant authorities prior to any cutting down of
trees within the Site. Cutting down of trees shall be as minimal as possible and within the local
environment conservation requirements.
The Engineer shall decide on the choice of trees to be cut down and removed. All cut-up trees
shall be disposed off the Site to the Contractor's tip.

Where instructed by the Engineer, the Contractor shall clear any protruding branches of trees
which are not marked for cutting down, and the cost of such work to be borne by the Contractor.

1.4 UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES, FOUNDATIONS, CHAMBERS AND DRAINS

Any existing foundation of building structures shall be moved to a depth so as not to interfere with
the proposed works. The depth of which to be approved by the Engineer.

Where shown on the tender drawings or where directed by the Engineer, underground structures,
culverts, chambers and foundations other than building foundations shall be removed to such
level as indicated in the tender drawings or directed by the Engineer.

Where instructed by the Engineer, the Contractor shall excavate and break out any redundant
pipes, ducts or adjacent surrounds. Trenches and pits resulting from site clearance shall be
properly cleared and filled with suitable material compacted in compliance with the Specification.

Where shown on the tender drawings or directed by the Engineer, redundant manholes and
chambers shall be filled with 1 : 3 : 6 Grade 15 concrete and not broken up. Manhole covers shall
be taken up and stored for re-use.

1.5 SERVICE POSTS, TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND STREET FURNITURE

All posts carrying “Tenaga Nasional Berhad” cables and telephones lines shall be removed and
relocated by the relevant service authorities.

The Contractor shall dismantle, take down and transport to the Contractor's store, all lamp posts,
sign posts, traffic signal posts, fences and other items of street furniture including bus stops and
guard rails which are not required for immediate re-use at such time, as approved by the
Engineer. Embedded items shall be carefully cleared of all adhering soil or concrete. All items
shall be kept clean and shall be protected from rusting for possible re-use.
