Quarter 1-Learning Activity Sheet, Week 3

Rounding, Comparing and Ordering Numbers

I. Introduction

Hello young learners! This is your learning activity sheet in Mathematics 3,

quarter 1, week 3.This learning material is about rounding, comparing and
ordering numbers. It aims to guide and engage you to understand the concept
of rounding, comparing and ordering numbers.

By the end of the lesson, you should be able to round, compare and order
or arrange numbers up to 10 000.

II. Presentation
You learned in grade two about rounding numbers and comparing
numbers. That will give you an idea about the activities you will do in this learning activity
sheet. You also learned about place value and value of a digit in your previous activity.
Do you still remember this lesson?

Today, you will start to learn a new lesson. Read the story problem, enjoy and
discover this new learnings you will gain from this learning activity sheet.

READ:

Chuwaley, a grade 3 pupil heard from the TV news that there are 1769 covid patients
in our place while there were 1256 who recovered from the covid virus. She wrote the
numbers in her notebook and told her parents when they came home.

1. Who heard the covid number of cases from the TV news?

2. How many patients were infected?
3. How many patients recovered?

Looking back to the story problem that you read. There are 1769 people who were
affected by this covid virus and 1256 recovered from it.

Let’s try to study the figures given,

*1769 and 1256

*How do we round these numbers to the nearest tens? hundreds? thousands?

* In rounding numbers, we follow this rule:

*We round up if the numbers at the right side of the number being rounded is 5,6,7,8,9.

*We round down if the numbers at the right side of the number we are rounding is
0,1,2,3,4.

a. How do we round numbers to the nearest tens?

Ex: 21 -> 20
25 -> 30
43 -> 40
39 -> 40
b. How do we round numbers to the nearest hundreds?
Ex: 135 -> 150
553 -> 600
203 -> 200
c. How to round numbers to the nearest thousands?
Ex: 3660 - > 4000
1309 -> 1000
5409 -> 5000

*So how do we round the number of covid patients and recoveries?

1. 1769 to the nearest thousands is 2000

2. 1256 to the nearest thousands is 1000

We can say that there are around 2000 covid patients and around 1000 recoveries.

What is comparing numbers? How do we do it?

We use relation symbols like >, < and = when comparing numbers.

* < less than

* > greater than

* = equal to

Example: 1. 49 > 43

⮚ 49 is greater than 43
2. 351 < 531
⮚ 351 is less than 531

3. 735 = 735

⮚ 735 is equal to 735

What is ordering numbers?

Ordering numbers is arranging numbers from increasing order or decreasing

order or from least to greatest or greatest to least.

Example:

a. increasing order or least to greatest

● 35, 48, 63, 75, 92

● 45, 66, 88, 93, 99

b. decreasing order or greatest to least

● 298, 277, 175, 105, 98

● 659, 633, 405, 335, 209

What I Can Do
I know you can solve real life problems applying the concept and skill you have
learned from this learning module.

1. Chuwaley celebrated her 16th birthday last week. She received a cash gifts of

total of P1310. Round off her cash gifts to the nearest hundreds and
thousands.

P155.00
P215.00
P325.00
2. Compare Chuwaleys’ cash gifts by using > , < or =.

1. P155 ______ P215
