2. Review: 4Pics1Word
Directions: Guess the mystery words by supplying the missing letters
and using the four pictures as your clue.
In the previous lesson, you have learned that there are two motions of
the earth: revolution and rotation. Rotation that causes day and night. It
takes place on its axis within 24 hours. Revolution that causes four
seasons in some countries. It takes place on its orbit within 365 ¼ days.

Unlocking of Difficulties
1. Asteroids – are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun
2. Solar System – it is gravitationally bound system of the sun and
the objects that orbit it
3. Terrestrial - means having rocky surface
4. Jovian – made up of gas
5. Satellite – a celestial body orbiting the earth or another planet

Motivation

Look at the illustration carefully.

This is our solar system. It is composed of different heavenly bodies

such as planets, asteroids, stars and satellites. The word planet comes
from the Greek word planetai which means “wandering”. Planets are
called such because they are always moving. At present, there are eight
(8) planets in the solar system. All these planets move constantly around
the Sun at different rates or speed. Planets rotate on their own axis as
they revolve around the Sun. Planets have no light of their own and that
they only reflect light from the Sun. The planets in our solar system are
divided into two (2) groups. These are the inner planets and the outer
planets. The inner planets are the four planets closer to the Sun. The
outer planets are those farther from the Sun. The inner planets include
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These inner planets are also called
terrestrial planets, because like Earth, these planets have rocky surface.
Meanwhile, the outer planets include Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune. These outer planets are also called jovian planets because like
Jupiter, these planets are large and gaseous. (Jovian derive from the
name Jove which is another name for the Roman god Jupiter).

*Teacher has further discussion on a video presentation about different

information of planets of the solar system and let the pupils watch it.
B. Development * The teacher reminds to follow SAFE Protocols:
S- sanitize and keep hands clean
A- always wears face mask
F- follow 1 meter distancing
E- encourage everyone to be SAFE

Learning Task 1. Compare the two groups of planets according to the

given characteristics of planets in the box. Use the Venn diagram below.
o Has soil o Revolve around the sun
o No moon or 1-2 moons only o gas giants
o Takes many years to revolve o rotates on their own axis
around the sun
o Compose of gaseous materials o nearer from the sun
o Smaller in size o has rings

C. Engagement * The teacher groups the learners according to their talent with regards
to the activity.
* The teacher reminds to follow SAFE Protocols:
S- sanitize and keep hands clean
A- always wears face mask
F- follow 1 meter distancing
E- encourage everyone to be SAFE
ACTIVITY RULES:
1. I will listen carefully to the teacher’s directions.
2. I will make sure I know what to do before I begin an activity.
3. I will handle all science materials and tools carefully.
4. I will wait for permission before I touch science materials or tools.
Learning Task 2. Using the given information about the distances of the
eight planets from the Sun, make an illustration according to the zone
where you belong. Arrange the planets from their distance to the sun
based on the given data. Name all the planets according to the distance
from the Sun.
