I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrate understanding of how world literature and other text
types serve as ways of expressing and resolving personal conflicts, also how to use strategies in linking
textual information, enhancing communication, public speaking, emphasis markers in persuasive texts,
different forms of modals, reflective and intensive pronouns.

B. Performance Standard: The learner composes a short but powerful persuasive text using a variety of
persuasive techniques and devices.

C. Learning Competencies: EN10G-If-3, 6: Use Modals


EN10G-Ie-26: Using Words and Expressions that Emphasize a Point

At the end of the class, the students will be able to:


1. Identify modal verbs;
2. Differentiate the functions of modals in a sentence; and
3. Demonstrate understanding by composing their own sentences through games and activities.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


TOPIC: Use of Modals

STRATEGIES: Power Point Presentation


Games, Activities ( Word Puzzle, Giving advice, Constructing sentences)

MATERIALS: PowerPoint Presentation


Cut-outs

III. PROCEDURE

A. Review
Do a quick question and answer to help the class remember the previous lesson.
Ask if they still have questions regarding the previous lesson.

B. Motivation
Ice Breaker – Clap-Boom-Pen!
Introduce the ice breaker.
Do at least two trials before giving scores.

C. Activities.
Present the new lesson through a “Word Puzzle Game”.
Let the students answer the puzzle.
Give clue in case they will have a hard time answering.
The winner will write the words in the board.
Let everybody read the words found in the puzzle.
Ask the students, “What do we call these words?”
Let them recite.
D. Abstraction
Give the definition along with a sample sentence using modal.
Allow the students to construct sentences using modals to check if they can
follow.
Ask them what they have observed and learned about Modal Verbs compared to
any other classification of verbs in terms of how they function in a sentence.

E. Application
Through another game, “Giving advice”, allow the students to read the problems
and give them a minute to think of possible advice.
Provide an example before asking them to start the game.

F. Assessment
A 10-item Fill in the Blank test type wherein the students will decide
which Modal Verb would correctly complete each sentence.

IV. ASSIGNMENT

Prepare a “minute recap” to be recited next meeting by answering the following questions:
What did you learn last meeting?
What question do you still have?
What did you like most about the lesson?
