State the exact purpose of the experiment in one sentence. E.g. “finding unknown molarity of X
by Y method/finding Z constant/investigating X-Y relationship by Z”. Do not state the purpose of
the method applied in the experiment or do not define a term.
AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT
AIM: The aim of this experiment is experimentally proving Kirchhoff’s rules for electrical
circuits.
Give information about the experiment and related terms in 2-3 paragraphs. State the hypothesis
in one sentence.
1
INTRODUCTION
Kirchhoff’s Current Law: States that “The algebraic sum of all currents entering and
exiting a node must equal zero.”
Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law: States that the algebraic sum of the potential differences in any
loop must be equal to zero as: ΣV = 0.
List everything needed to complete your experiment. Describe the steps you completed during
your investigation. This is your procedure. Do not copy-paste this part from your lab manual.
Your instructor may change steps/amounts/methods.
2
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Materials:
D-cell battery
AD/DC lab kit: resistors, wire leads
Digital multimeter (DMM)
PASCO interface (for 2 sensors)-Xplorer GLX
A Black wire and a red wire, each with a piggy-back banana on one end, and an alligator clip on
the other end.
Voltage and current sensor.
Method:
1. Connecting the circuit shown in the lab manual, using resistors available and the figures in
manual as reference
2. Record the resistance values with battery disconnected
3. Measure resistance of circuit between points A and B, as it`s shown it the manual
4. Connect battery to the circuit, measure the voltage across each of the resistors and record the
values
5. Measure the current through each of the resistors. Interrupt the circuit and place the DMM in
series
6. Measure and Record each of individual currents, as well as the current flow into and out the
main part
7. Determine the net current flow into or out each pf the four nodes of the circuit
8. Determine the net voltage drop around at least three of the six or closed loops
Numerical data obtained from your procedure (usually a table). Data encompasses what you
recorded when you conducted the experiment. It is just the facts, not any interpretation of what
they mean. For results, describe in words what the data means. Graphs obtained from the data
and calculations should be presented in this section.

12 0.67 60
12.2 0.59 46.1
32.4 0.88 2.5
39.1 0.36 8.6
35.5 0.22 6
Total 20.3 1.47 50
2-
Write a single paragraph that sums up what happened in the experiment, whether your hypothesis
was accepted or rejected, and what this means.
CONCLUSION:
In this laboratory exercise we verified the validity of Kirchhoff’s Loop and Junction Rules via
4
experimentation. We compared the measured current values to the current values deduced from
the application of Kirchhoff’s rules, and observed that both values were close with respect to one
another. We also learned about the sign conventions one must use when applying said rules with
respect to the electrical components and the direction of current flow.
Clearly answer and explain the questions you’ve been asked by your instructor. Do not answer
only as “yes/no”.
