C. Presentation
Let’s read our objectives for today.
Can someone read the first one?
(Call students to read the objectives one by one.)
Now, Do you have any idea of what is our topic today?
No, teacher.
Our topic today is all about the Common Table
Officials you can observe in sports.
D. Discussion
Let’s know first what is table officials.
What are Table Officials?
Table officials are the people who sit at the side of the
playing court during a sports game. (They are not the
ones playing or refereeing, but they play a very
important role). Their job is to record, track, and
control important parts of the game, like the score,
the time, and the player statistics.
There are three common types of table officials:
Can you read those 3?
Scorer, Timer, and Statistician
1. Scorer - Keeps track of the game score
Responsibilities:
Records each point scored by the teams
Makes sure the official scoresheet is accurate
and complete
Common Tools Used:
Scoresheet
Pen or pencil
Flip scoreboard or digital scoreboard
2. Timer - Manages the official game clock
Responsibilities:
Starts and stops the game clock as needed (e.g.,
during timeouts, fouls, or game stoppage)
Keeps track of game periods and break times
Sounds the buzzer or horn to signal end of time
Common Tools Used:
Stopwatch or digital timer
Buzzer or horn
3. Statistician - Records player statistics and
performance
Responsibilities:
Writes down individual player stats (points,
rebounds, assists, fouls, etc.)
Helps coaches and referees by providing data
Provides reports or summaries at the end of the
game
Common Tools Used:
Laptop or paper stat sheet
Pen/pencil
Without these table officials, it would be very hard to
run a fair and organized game. Can you imagine
playing a match without knowing the correct score or
how much time is left? That’s why their role is so
important.
Did you understand our lesson, class? Yes, teacher.
Now that we know who they are, we’re going to
practice their roles in the next activity!
E. Assessment
To see if you understand our lesson, we will have an
activity.
Instructions:
1. I will divide you into 3 groups. Each group will
be assigned one table official role.
2. Your group will talk and discuss the role and
responsibilities of your assigned table official.
3. You have 3 minutes to talk with your group.
4. After 3 minutes, I will choose one person from
each group.
5. I will read a situation (scenario), and the
chosen person will act out their role.
6. The chosen person should remember their role
and do what their table official is supposed to
do in the scenario.
Understand, class? Yes, teacher.
I will give you 3 minutes to prepare.
Timer starts now! (students starts to discuss with their group mates)
Time’s up!
Now, come to the front na. And this will be your tools
you will use in the scenario. Listen carefully and act as
one of the table official.
During a basketball game between Team A and Team
B, the game starts and the timer begins counting. Team
A makes a 2-point shot, so the scorer writes it on the
scoresheet. After a few seconds, Team B scores a 3-
point shot, and the scorer updates the score again.
Suddenly, a player from Team A commits a foul, so
the timer stops the clock while the statistician writes
down the foul under the player’s number. After the
referee signals, the timer starts the game again. Before
the minute ends, Team A scores another 2 points, and
the scorer updates the score. When one minute is over,
the timer rings the buzzer to signal the end of time.
Very good! Now, who wants to try another scenario
from the class?
(Another scenario was given and the students did
well.)
And that’s end our activity. Very good to those here in
front for performing well.
(clapping)
Let’s give them a clap, class.
