JIMMY, the untold true story of America's most-beloved actor and the iconic role that saved him, focuses on the most transformative season in Jimmy Stewart's life--from winning the Academy Award® for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. Give in to it or not, but only Scrooges would roll their eyes at a film that wears its big heart on its tear-soaked sleeve. Go to Full Review

It’s not surprising that the film places strong emphases on faith and military patriotism. But those aspects are not the real problems with the film, which simply doesn’t prove compelling despite a top-notch performance from KJ Apa. Go to Full Review

Apa plays the famous voice as a mask a frightened man learned to hide behind, and that's a smarter choice than any impersonation. Go to Full Review

The idea of doing a film about Stewart’s military experiences and how they wound up reshaping him as an actor once he returned home is actually intriguing, so it is a bit disappointing that Jimmy ultimately makes so little of it Go to Full Review

[A] simplistic way of looking at its subject might be why Jimmy doesn't feel like a sincere story, no matter how much the movie insists that it wants to be. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 3 hrs ago Jimmy is a powerful film about actor James Stewart, bringing Hollywood and war together. KJ Apa gives a phenomenal performance, and the screenplay connects Stewart's life as an actor with his military experience. I am disappointed this film may not receive awards attention because Apa deserves recognition for his work. The war sequences show the misery, destruction, and damage caused by the conflict. The action feels purposeful and gives viewers a sense of what these men endured. The film also highlights how Stewart treated the people serving alongside him. He cared about them and supported them, making that part of the story especially meaningful. What makes Jimmy compelling is that the struggle does not end when the war is over. Stewart has difficulty returning to civilian life, and the film shows how deeply the experience affects him. It is a well-made movie with a strong screenplay and an excellent central performance. This is a good story that deserves recognition. See more
