| First encounter | Poshanka! Edges sharp and senses keen! In my land, that is the way warriors greet each other. For though you are a child barely hatched, you are also a warrior. Your stance, your weapon, your movements all proclaim it so. |
|---|---|
| After opening the shop the first time | In these lands names are given freely, are they not? I am Shakra, Wielding Rings. If our hunts intertwine again, I will have new maps to trade. Until then, farewell, Child Wielding Needle. |
| Speaking outside of Bone Bottom or Bellhart, if Hornet has not had this conversation | I came deeper into Pharloom in search of my mentor, the greatest of my tribe. I could not keep pace though, and her trail grew cold. |
| Buying the last item of stock | You have purchased the last of my mapping stock, for now. Stay alive on your journey, and when our paths next cross we may trade again. |
| Speaking when Shakra has no items to offer | In this moment, I have no more items to trade. Perhaps, if we meet again on the roads ahead, I shall have crafted new goods to sell. |
| After using the calling ring for the first time | Poshanka! So you found my calling ring, Child Wielding Needle. I recognised the sound of your weapon's foreign metal against it. On the hunt for my master, I am often away, but I still use this place as camp. Use the ring to call me whenever you wish to make trade. |
| First conversation after travelling via Ventrica |
|
| While Cursed | Gara Takana! What has happened to you, Child Wielding Needle, to cause you such brutal weakening?
|
| While infested by Muckmaggots | Ka, va! Your shell is ridden with those gruesome maggots. It was a foolish choice of yours to swim in their sickly pools.
|
| If Hornet does not own a Quill, does own Maps, and the Citadel has been visited | You hold many charts, Child Wielding Needle. You should consider trading for a quill. With a quill in claw, your maps can be further extended from your own travels. Record enough and you may, in time, come to know this kingdom all. |
| Speaking to Shakra after seeing her in Far Fields, Shellwood, Sinner's Road, Bilewater, Wormways, or Blasted Steps, if Hornet has not had this conversation | Okklu-Din... a perceptive question. I travel in search of my mentor, the greatest of my tribe. I have followed her trail throughout this kingdom, but have so far failed to catch her. |
| After having both Map and Quill | Cartography! Peh. Bakallo! It is a craft-skill common amongst my tribe. Most important to keep one's mind sharp when on a journey. |
| Speaking after completing Trail's End | I shall not return, Hornet Wielding Needle... I cannot. To leave my tribe's nest-plains, that journey has only one direction. |
| Playing the Needolin | Beyond land's bounds... Warrior's call... |
Shakra

She has lived a mere fraction of my lifetime and yet her rings prove a ferocious match. As gifted a warrior as I have ever encountered, and one I am fortunate to call a friend.

Shakra is a Merchant and boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong. She is a warrior cartographer from Pharloom's edge seeking to find her master.[2][3] She sells maps and mapping tools in exchange for Rosaries. After completing the Trail's End wish, she can be dueled in Greymoor during Act 2.
Background
Shakra is a warrior and navigator from a tribe on Pharloom's edge.[2] Shakra's tribe values prowess in combat[4] and refer to one another by the weapon they carry.[5] The members of her tribe that leave their nest-plains, including herself, cannot return.[6] She traverses Pharloom in search for her lost master.[3][7]
In-game Events
Shakra can be encountered in various locations in Pharloom, adding new goods to her shop in almost every new area. With the exception of Bone Bottom and Bellhart, once Shakra has been encountered in a location, she moves on and does not return to that location.[Source 1] Shakra may leave an area before Hornet finds her if certain conditions are met; in such cases, her shop items for those areas can be purchased on her next encounter.
Shakra can be first encountered in the Marrow. After the Bell Beast is defeated, she resides on a ledge on the eastern side of Bone Bottom. If Shakra is away, she can be called back by hitting her ring pole. Once Widow is defeated, or if The Terrible Tyrant wish is completed,[Source 2] Shakra moves to Bellhart permanently and does not return to Bone Bottom even if called. Once in Bellhart, Shakra can be called back from her travels by hitting her new ring pole.
Shakra appears as a combat ally in the enemy gauntlet in Hunter's March if Hornet has not visited Greymoor, Bellhart or Shellwood yet.[Source 3] If Shakra does not appear for the fight, she can be encountered in a later section of Hunter's March, in the long tunnel leading east to the Chapel of the Beast. Hornet can also request Shakra's aid with the enemy gauntlet at the Forum, if the Trail's End wish has been completed. Shakra replaces Garmond & Zaza's own appearance here if their quest has also been completed.[Source 4]
If the prerequisites for the Trail's End wish are fulfilled, Shakra disappears from all locations and will not return until the wish is completed.[Source 5]
After the wish is completed, Shakra gives Hornet the Throwing Ring Tool, and can be asked to assist with the Forum fight in High Halls. Shakra can also be met just outside the Greymoor entrance to Bellhart by hitting the ring pole there, upon which she challenges Hornet to a friendly duel that can be repeated even after winning. There is no reward for winning the duel. The duel is no longer accessible during Act 3, and is also inaccessible while the Flea Caravan is in Greymoor.
Once Act 3 begins, Shakra takes up the role of defender of Bellhart, and only rests inside the town occasionally.[Source 6] She can sometimes be seen killing enemies outside the town entrances in Greymoor and Shellwood.[Source 7]
Benches
Shakra also sets up temporary Benches at her camps in Greymoor and Mount Fay, providing convenient save points while Hornet completes challenges nearby. Shakra abandons each camp after Hornet fulfils a respective condition:
- Defeating the enemy gauntlet at Craw Lake
- Obtaining the Faydown Cloak at the summit of Mount Fay
The cloth disappears from each Bench afterwards, and they can no longer be interacted with.
Behaviour and Tactics
Shakra has the following moves as both an ally and an opponent:
- Teleport: Between each attack, Shakra rapidly teleports 1–3 times as her main form of movement around the available space. She always maintains distance between herself and her opponent with each teleport.
- Ring Throw: Shakra teleports mid-air and quickly tosses 1–2 rings in quick succession at her opponent. These rings bounce once and are not affected by gravity.
- Ring Burst: Shakra teleports directly above her opponent and pauses for a moment before slamming down to the ground, creating a ring-shaped burst of energy around herself. Against Hornet, this deals

.
When allied with Hornet against other foes, Shakra occasionally blocks enemy attacks or projectiles. After blocking 15 times, she becomes stunned and falls to her knees. She recovers after 6 seconds, or immediately if Hornet Binds near her.
While sparring with her in Greymoor, Shakra also has the following moves:
- Ring Thrust: Shakra teleports to the ground and quickly dashes towards Hornet, creating a large pulse of energy with her rings at the end of the dash that deals

. If Hornet is behind her, she follows this up by throwing a ring in the opposite direction of the dash.
If Hornet is defeated, she simply passes out and wakes up by the challenge ring post. As such, losing this duel in
Steel Soul Mode will not cause permanent loss of the save profile.

Trivia
- Shakra was formally revealed in a Team Cherry blog post:
- "Fierce and intimidating, Shakra is a warrior seeking her master, who vanished under strange circumstances. Shakra's clan are skilled fighters who can handle their own in the kingdom's wilds. Usefully for Hornet, each member of the clan also hones a Craft-Skill and Shakra's mastery of cartography will prove invaluable on Hornet's adventure."[8]
- If any enemy gets too close to Shakra at any time, she moves to attack it with Throwing Rings.
- Shakra only sings if the Needolin is played outside of combat. She does not respond to it during battle with either enemies or with Hornet.
- Shakra can have different dialogue depending on her current animation modes. The most commonly used modes are her standing mode and her sitting mode. For most locations, this does not matter much as she only uses a single mode; but for Bone Bottom and Bellhart, this can affect the dialogues she may use because these locations use both her standing and sitting modes.[Source 9] The standing mode is used when Shakra is called back to town using her ring pole, and the sitting mode is used if Hornet enters these areas and Shakra is already there. It is important to note that if Shakra is in either town, and if Hornet rests on a Bench outside of the current town where Shakra is at, then there is a 50% chance that Shakra leaves that town and does not return unless she is called with the ring pole.[Source 10]
- The icon for the Ventrica Pins sold in Shakra's shop is inconsistent: the pins on the map are black while they are shown to be grey in the shop.
- The black shop icon does exist in the game's files; however, they seem to be incorrectly named and are not used.

- Shakra's Bone Bottom location was initially different. She would sit in the middle of the settlement, instead of on a ledge to the right of it.
